The Forever Holy Priest

Today's lead Scripture is from Hebrews 7:23-25 NKJV

23. Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing.

24. But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood.

25.Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

The "He" referenced above is Jesus Christ. These verses speak of the priesthood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God by contrasting it with the priesthood of men. God in his abundant mercy and love sent us His Only Son that would not only be perfectly sinless but also lives on forever as our Holy Priest. In the past, we had to go through priests who would intercede on our behalf for the forgiveness of our sins. In case you wondering what intercede or intercession means. The Cambridge English dictionary defines intercession as "the act of using your influence to make someone in authority forgive someone else or save them from punishment." In this case, our Heavenly Father sent his One and only Son Jesus Christ, who was obedient to the Father's instruction as He learned obedience by the things He suffered which made Him the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him (Hebrews 5:8-9).

Thanks to the new covenant of grace through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, we now approach God directly thereby establishing a personal relationship between ourselves and Him. The truth that Jesus Christ continues to live on forever gives us hope that we who believe in Him shall live on forever as well because as He is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17).

For this reason we remain encouraged to approach the throne of grace boldly and speak to our forever Holy Priest Jesus Christ about all our joys or concerns as He is forever ready to intercede on our behalf to God so we can be saved.

I'll end with this Word in Hebrews 4:14-16 NKJV

"14. Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God let us hold fast our confession.

15. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.

16. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
